Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, good fortune, youth, and beauty. She is also the goddess of prosperity, purity, generosity, and the embodiment of beauty, grace, and charm.
Lakshmi is the wife of the great god Vishnu and the pair is often worshipped in tandem as Lakshmi-Narayana. She is one of the most popular deities worshipped in Hinduism. Every Hindu home has at least one picture of Lakshmi.
Lakshmi is associated with Maya ("Illusion"). Along with Parvati and Saraswati, she forms the Tridevi of Hindu goddesses.
Lakshmi is often depicted with elephants in the background, who represent power and hard work. The symbol Śri, which represents her and material prosperity, is also widely used.
Most Hindus pray to Lakshmi on Diwali, which is a festival in India.
