In Hindu mythology, Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom, and learning. She is also known as Bharati, which means eloquence. 
Saraswati is the daughter of Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga. She has four hands, which represent the four aspects of human personality in learning: mind, intellect, alertness, and ego. 
Saraswati is one of the Tridevi, along with the goddesses Lakshmi and Parvati. She is the consort of Lord Brahma. 
Saraswati is usually depicted holding a veena. 
 
The festival of Basant Panchami is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati and is celebrated on the fifth day of the Maagh month, which falls in January or February. On this day, people worship the goddess, who is a symbol of knowledge, education, creativity, and music.
