The Karumbu Kamakshi Vilakku is a brass oil lamp used for pooja in the home. It is designed and polished to be bright and shiny. The lamp is engraved with the Goddess Kamakshi Amman and sugarcane motifs. 
The lamp symbolizes the eradication of darkness. It is a traditional decorative piece in the prayer room. Before the lamp is lit, it is worshipped with flowers, prasadam, and other sacred items.
